Trending for 2015

So I've read that a trend for 2015 in the photo-advertising industry is that clients are no longer expecting a photographer to capture a single photograph for say, a print ad, but are requiring a photographer to capture a library of imagery. A library is necessary to a client because their advertising needs have changed over the past few years — an image for a print ad may be needed still but along with a Facebook cover shot or post, a blog post, a tweet, an instagram image, a banner, a meme, etc... you get the picture. What's interesting is that — well, I've been shooting libraries for clients for years now. Because I wanted that from my photographers when I worked on Royal Caribbean and John Hancock in my Art Director/Designer years, I guess that's why I've always done that for my clients in my Photographer years. 
   
I mention this as I just finished organizing a library of photography from a photoshoot with FamilyFun magazine last year. It took me a few months to narrow down 5,000 images to just 75 but take a peek. My team and I worked hard (really hard in 95 degree temps too) to capture a range of shots for the 6+ scenarios in a single day photoshoot:

Day and Night with an Artist

A little "throwback-thursday" to a few years ago in Vermont shooting the amazing Robert Compton. It was an honor and an amazing experience to watch him at work for a day. A true artist. You couldn't leave his studio without being completely inspired to create something — anything! 
   

Camp Woodchuck

I can't resist sharing a few pics from a birthday party I put together for my seven year old son last weekend. We let him have 3 friends and his brother sleep over in a tent in our backyard (with my husband sleeping in a tent next to theirs and yes, I slept soundly in the air-conditioned house). 
   
We had a S'mores Hunt to begin the night (scavenger hunt for the ingredients) and a Catching Sparks game (catching cheese balls on your head, thank you Family Fun magazine for that idea!). There was Grub Mix (trail mix), Kindling (pretzel sticks), Doo-Doo bars (chocolate-covered granola bars), a campfire birthday cake and of course, Bug Juice, which my son begged me not to make and not to give to his friends. I had the little guy convinced I was going to squeeze bugs for the party. I'm a terrible mother! 
   
Now the name. We named it Camp Woodchuck because in the few days leading up to the party we had to catch and relocate an entire family of adorable yet seriously greedy and hungry woodchucks in our garden! My seven year old loved the name so it stuck.  
   
And I think I had as much fun organizing this party as the boys did experiencing it! The best part for the boys was probably the Doo-Doo bars!

Way way back.

It's hard to believe that a decade ago I used to shoot mostly landscapes in black/white, usually infrared or with Ilford SFX film. Man I loved that film. And with my $20 plastic holga which I also loved. Plus I'd ask people to move out of a shot — NOW I beg and bribe people to get in to my photographs. 

   

People grow and so their photography style grows too.

These images were captured on a shoot in Italy for Royal Caribbean about 13 years ago. Time flies.

Cool.

Working on some cool, fun stuff lately. Especially this bubble video shoot (video coming soon). I wanted to share this pic though — we thought this was cool: all the bubbles were landing around this little tired model and they weren't popping! She just laid there, content as could be, as the bubbles rested around her. It was magical.
